Case Study 6 - Cradoc Primary School, Powys

Indoor and outdoor learning environments form a coherent whole at Cradoc Primary. Children require two pairs of shoes for school: wellies for exploring the whole of the outdoors, whatever the weather; and slippers for work inside the building.

The school’s grounds reflect a strong partnership between the school, local community, governors and parents.  The school engaged a Landscape Architect to draw up a whole site plan - the springboard from which the school has developed a dynamic and comprehensive vision around which all stakeholders can work.

The regular Annual School Grounds Day attracts over 70 local people to volunteer their skills and work on the outside spaces.  Community involvement is not restricted to this one day, and governors and volunteers regularly work with the children on improvement or maintenance projects.
