Finance Minister sees results of capital funding at Rhyl Sixth Form College

Finance Minister Jane Hutt saw the results of Welsh Government capital funding and how it has made a major difference to education facilities in Rhyl during a recent visit to the town.

The Minister was visiting Rhyl Sixth Form College which received a grant of over £3m during 2009-2010 from Welsh Government under the Strategic Capital Investment Scheme to help build the new facility.  The development included building a new, two storey extension at Coleg Llandrillo and includes facilities just for sixth formers.

Jane Hutt said:

"It has been a real pleasure to visit the facilities at Rhyl Sixth Form and see how capital funding from the Welsh Government is making a real difference.   Coleg Llandrillo and Denbighshire Council have worked together to provide the excellent facilities we see today and the Welsh Government played its part in ensuring that capital funding was available.

"Rhyl Sixth is an excellent example of post-16 education in Wales."

Director of Coleg Llandrillo Rhyl, Celia Jones, said:

"The provision is designed to maximise choice for learners in the Rhyl area in a modern, purpose-built facility. This reflects the changing needs of young people studying for A Levels. At the core of the Rhyl Sixth provision is the requirement to achieve the highest possible standards.

"It is fantastic to see that young people now have access to such an impressive centre of learning. Coleg Llandrillo is at the forefront of various innovative partnerships and is serving the local people with the best facilities possible, at every level."
