Nant Celyn Primary School, Torfaen
Nant Celyn is a single storey community primary school in a modern 21st Century building. It includes excellent disability access to all areas of the building and grounds, and direct access from all the classrooms to outdoor areas. Each infant classroom allows access to an outdoor space with a canopy providing protection in wet weather.
All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards, and pupils in most year groups have access to laptops on a one to one basis. Video conferencing facilities allow the school to establish links and share lessons with other schools in the UK and abroad. The school also has its own TV and recording studio, which will allow pupils to develop their presentation skills. The technology rich environment places Nant Celyn Primary School at the cutting edge of teaching and learning.
Torfaen’s Regional Centre for Hearing Impaired previously based at Hollybush School has transferred to the new school. Special attention has been given to the acoustic environment throughout the school and, in particular, sound insulation between classrooms to reduce the transfer of sound around the school.
To implement the Foundation Phase, Nant Celyn has specially designed facilities including landscaped grounds and outdoor play areas where children can explore and enjoy learning through first hand experience.
A floodlit artificial turf pitch and a multi use games area are available for use by the school and the community. The main hall, small hall, community room and resource area will be available outside of the normal school day for community activities. Coedeva Youth club which was based in a separate building on the Hollybush site has relocated to the new school.
